The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Rodney V. Nadison (ASN: 36961718), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 411th Infantry Regiment, 103d Infantry Division. On 15 January 1945, Private Nadison volunteered to lead a patrol into hostile territory to gain information. He first decided to make a reconnaissance during daylight and made his way to an advanced command post. Warned not to go further, he disregarded the advice and went forward and obtained the necessary information. While returning to our lines near Forbach, France, he was mortally wounded by enemy fire but attempted to pass on information of enemy dispositions by writing in the snow. Private First Class Nadison’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
