The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Carl N. Morrow (ASN: 0-2010894), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action in Germany, on 26 March 1945. Assigned the mission of protecting tanks in their advance, Lieutenant Morrow moved forward with his men until he heard noises and, upon investigating them, found six enemy soldiers occupying a half-track. He approached the vehicle after it had been knocked out to discern whether it was completely disposed of when he was fired on by two of the enemy. Lieutenant Morrow immediately returned their fire and killed them, thereby eliminating a threat to the tanks. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Morrow, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
