The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Fifth Grade Donald O. Momany (ASN: 36422341), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 741st Tank Battalion, 8th Armored Division, in support of the 1st Infantry Division in France on 6 June 1944. When radio communications were destroyed by enemy action during an extremely difficult beach landing, Corporal Momany courageously maintained liaison by personally carrying messages to company commanders. He made innumerable trips along the entire length of the fire-swept beach, exposed to heavy, sustained small arms, but continued with his missions until evacuated to a hospital ship. His courage and complete devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
