The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Richard McStay (ASN: 32867974), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Company A, 80th Tank Battalion, 8th Armored Division, in Germany on 30 March 1945. Corporal McStay’s tank was leading an attempted break-through, through enemy lines. When the vehicle was struck and immobilized he remained at his gun to continue fire against the enemy. While thus engaged, Corporal McStay was killed. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
