The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Sergeant] Lawrence M. McQueeney (ASN: RA-6981614), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against an armed enemy while serving as a member of Military Police Company, II Philippine Corps. Sergeant McQueeney displayed gallantry in action near Lamoa, Bataan, on 5 April 1942. During a bombing raid, he voluntarily left his place of shelter to rescue a severely wounded man who was trapped in an enclosed fox hole and endangered by exploding ammunition. Sergeant McQueeney’s courage and complete disregard for safety reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
