Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 142 (June 5, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Homer L. Master (ASN: 34210723), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action in Germany, on 12 April 1945. Private Master and several other members of his squad were riding the lead tank of an advancing task force when it was suddenly hit by fire from an enemy anti-tank gun emplaced in a town ahead. Although shaken by the impact of the shells, Private Master and his companions formed an assault force, advanced across a mined bridge to locate the anti-tank gun, and silenced the gun by killing its crew. Private Master and his companions then moved through the town and cleared it of the enemy, thus enabling the task force to resume its advance. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Master, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
