Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 137 (June 1, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Woodrow Lynch (ASN: 35671701), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, on 11 October 1944, in Germany. Although a disabled tank in which several wounded men lay was under heavy enemy machine gun, mortar, and artillery fire, Private Lynch and three comrades succeeded in extricating their wounded comrades despite being blinded by smoke and in danger of exploding ammunition. Making their way slowly from one protected position to another, Private Lynch and his comrades carried the wounded men to a forward aid station. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Lynch, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
