The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Raymond Harvey (ASN: 0-1286281), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action on 21 October 1944, in France. Braving murderous enfilading and cross-fire from hostile machine guns, Captain Harvey led his platoon in spirited assault against fiercely defended enemy positions. Encountering a machine gun nest, although armed only with a carbine, he fearlessly charged the emplacement, killing one and capturing four of the enemy. Then personally manning a rocket launcher and leading launcher teams forward to immobilize threatening enemy tanks, his valiant determination inspired his men to drive the enemy from its commanding hill position and achieve the objective despite overwhelming odds.
