The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Charles E. Kosiorowski (ASN: 32148841), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Battery A, 94th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 4th Armored Division, in action at Bastogne, Belgium, on 29 December 1944. When enemy aircraft, strafing and bombing, approached his position at Bastogne, Sergeant Kosiorowski, in utter disregard for his own personal safety and in the face of enemy fire, mounted a howitzer piece and commenced to fire the .50 caliber machine gun at the enemy planes. He continued firing at the enemy until the Germans dropped a bomb near his piece which killed him instantly. Sergeant Kosiorowski’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
