Headquarters, SIXTH U.S. Army, General Orders No. 68 (April 11, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Third Grade Joseph I. Kidushim (ASN: 19097688), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Battery C, 951st Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion, in action near Maisen, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 15 February 1945. When his battery was informed that a concentration of Japanese was near, Technician Third Grade Kidushim and a squad of men made a reconnaissance of a thickly wooded area in the vicinity. In order to protect the officers from attack and to determine the location of the enemy, he exposed himself in order to draw fire from the enemy. During the intense fighting that followed he was seriously wounded but continued to fight until he was pulled to safety by his men. By voluntarily exposing himself to the hostile fire, the position of the enemy was determined and the lives of his men were protected. Technician Third Grade Kidushim’s courageous action so inspired his men that they finished the attack without further lose to themselves. His gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
