The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade [then Private First Class] Lloyd R. Kemp (ASN: 39420185), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Company A, 80th Tank Battalion, 8th Armored Division, in Germany on 28 March 1945. When his tank was disabled, Corporal Kemp escaped to the shelter of a nearby house. Seeing his tank commander lying wounded beside the tank, Corporal Kemp left the security of his position and removed the wounded officer to shelter. He remained with him, completely surrounded by enemy, tending his wounds. His heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
