The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Frank Kelley (ASN: 35243954), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action in Germany, on 17 April 1945. When Private Kelley’s company was pinned down by enemy fire while moving through an enemy town, they immediately called for as tank. As the tank moved forward, Private Kelley and his comrades observed an enemy rocket launcher team preparing to knock it out from a nearby cellar. They quickly moved to the rear of the building in which the enemy was concealed and opened fire. As the enemy rushed from the cellar to escape, Private Kelley and his comrades killed them with grenades. Private Kelley’s alertness and unhesitating action enabled the tank to knock out the enemy position. by Private First Class Kelley, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
