The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Oliver D. Holt (ASN: 36289131), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action in Germany, on 13 April 1945. The platoon of which Private Holt was a member was occupying three buildings prior to setting up a defensive position when enemy bazooka men began directing fire at the buildings. Private Hold, an automatic rifleman, courageously moved to a position from which he could bring fire on the enemy gunners. Under constant surveillance of enemy snipers he delivered such heavy and accurate fire that the enemy was forced to abandon their positions and flee. Private Holt’s gallant actions enabled his platoon to complete its defensive organization. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Holt, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
