The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Guy M. Holder (ASN: 34816523), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action in Germany, on 4 April 1945. During an attack the platoon to which Private Holder’s squad was attached received heavy fire from enemy machine gunners and snipers and one man was killed and one wounded. Private Holder, despite enemy fire striking all around him, moved to an exposed position, put his mortar into action, and directed fire on the machine gun position. After liquidating it, he remained in his hazardous position and directed fire on the enemy snipers, killing two and causing several others to withdraw. His heroic actions enabled the rifle platoon to continue forward and gain their objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Holder, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
