    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Cavalry) Joseph Farrell Haskell (ASN: 0-18197), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the Combat Command “B”, 7th Armored Division, in action in Germany, on 29 March 1945. Colonel Haskell’s aggressive action and tactical skill, employed with complete disregard for his personal safety while leading his column through areas known to be infested with enemy snipers and bazooka teams, were in a large part for the outstanding accomplishments of his forces in seizure of the Edersee dam. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Haskell, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
