The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Jose Guevarra (ASN: 10303399), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against an armed enemy while serving with Company H, 57th Infantry Regiment, Philippine Scouts, in action against the enemy in Bataan, Philippine Islands, from 27 to 29 January 1942. As a member of the battalion that destroyed the enemy forces on Lungos Kawayan Point, his courageous actions were an inspiration to his comrades. Private Guevarra’s heroic achievements reflect great credit on himself and the Philippine Scouts.
