Headquarters, 84th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 24 (February 7, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade John L. Greskiewicz (ASN: 33076204), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 909th Field Artillery Battalion, 84th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Belgium, on 22 January 1945. When the platoon which he was accompanying was temporarily delayed by intense and accurate enemy machine gun fire, Technician Fourth Grade Greskiewicz, radio operator for an artillery forward observer, crawled and dragged his radio to a point from which he could receive instructions from the observer. Although his aerial was shot away by enemy fire, Technician Fourth Grade Greskiewicz, displaying cool courage and disdain for danger, quickly made the needed repairs and successfully contacted the fire direction center, thereby securing artillery fire which silenced the enemy guns and enabled the platoon to resume its attack and accomplish its mission. The courage, resourcefulness and unswerving devotion to duty displayed by Technician Fourth Grade Greskiewicz reflect the highest credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States.
