Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 64 (November 23, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Harry N. Ginn (ASN: 39240706), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with a Field Artillery Battalion of the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on or about 10 July 1943. During an enemy aerial bombardment, Private Ginn’s landing craft was struck by a bomb and burst into flames. Disregarding the flames and exploding ammunition, Private Ginn remained on the craft until he had successfully evacuated a fellow soldier trapped beneath a burning vehicle. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
