The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Tokko Fukuchi (ASN: 39021364), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Company B, 100th Infantry Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, attached to the 92d Infantry Division, near Castelpoggio, Italy, on 14 April 1945. When his platoon was attacked by a superior enemy force, Private First Class Fukuchi engaged an enemy machine gun that was supporting the attack. He was seriously wounded in the thigh, but, hesitating long enough to stop the flow of blood, he continued to engage the enemy. He was wounded a second time, but kept up his fire until the enemy gun was silenced. Then he shifted his fire to the main body of the attacking force. Only when he was wounded on his right arm, making it useless, did he stop firing. Private First Class Fukuchi’s intrepid deed was an inspiration to his comrades and exemplifies the highest traditions of the Army of the United States.
