The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Glenn R. Fackler (ASN: 36892071), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as a Machine Gun Squad Leader with the 3d Platoon, Company A, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division, in action in the area of Bremscheid, Germany, on 10 April 1945. In the fierce action at Bremscheid, enemy cannon and tank fire took a high toll of casualties. Despite the great danger, Staff Sergeant Fackler unhesitatingly left cover to go to the aid of the wounded. Even when fire from a Tiger tank hit around him, Staff Sergeant Fackler continued his perilous mission of mercy. In the course of his brave action, Staff Sergeant Fackler was wounded. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 7th Armored Division, and the United States Army.
