The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Joseph A. Dormeyer (ASN: 37014829), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Tank Driver in Company A, 11th Tank Battalion, 10th Armored Division, at Ubstadt, Germany, on 2 April 1945. When his tank and an infantry group were cut off by numerically superior enemy forces, Sergeant Dormeyer courageously led the friendly elements in an attack which caught the opposing forces completely off balance, enabling the friendly elements to escape entrapment. His gallant achievement reflects great credit upon himself and the military forces of the United States.
