The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Norman H. Davis, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy in conducting the fire of his Armored Field Artillery Battalion in a superior manner, causing destructive blows against enemy material and personnel to such an extent that it is believed that much of the withdrawal of the enemy forces was due to his ability to place fire on essential enemy installations. First Lieutenant Davis’ gallant leadership and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
