The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Galen L. Curry (ASN: 0-465086), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 5th Field Artillery Group, in action on 1 September 1944. On that date, the light observation airplane which Lieutenant Curry was piloting near Clermont, France, was hit and badly damaged by enemy anti-aircraft fire. Displaying exceptional skill and cool courage, Lieutenant Curry maintained control of the airplane and succeeded in landing it in a friendly field without injury to himself and his observer. First Lieutenant Curry’s actions and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
