The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Major Surgeon Paul Frederick Straub, United States Army, for most distinguished gallantry on 21 December 1899, while serving with 36th Infantry, U.S. Volunteers, in action at Alos Zambales, Luzon, Philippine Islands. Major Surgeon Straub voluntarily exposed himself to a hot fire from the enemy in repelling with pistol fire an insurgent attack and at great risk of his own life went under fire to the rescue of a wounded officer and carried him to a place of safety.
