The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Kenneth E. Sexton (ASN: RA-14352243), United States Army, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with Company A, 70th Tank Battalion (Heavy), 1st Cavalry division, in action against an armed enemy on 6 September 1951, near Tokchol-li, Korea. As the task force was attempting to penetrate enemy positions in order to rescue a friendly unit that had been surrounded, a hostile rocket launcher team was observed directly above the lead tank’s position. The enemy was located in such a way that effective fire could not be placed against it from the task force. Realizing the grave danger to the friendly troops, Sergeant Sexton voluntarily left the comparative safety of his tank and despite intense small arms and grenade fire engaged the two man rocket launcher team. Although wounded by grenade fragments, Sergeant Sexton held his position until he eliminated the Chinese soldiers. Sergeant Sexton’s gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
