The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Patrick H. Doody, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 7 June 1864, while serving with Company E, 164th New York Infantry, in action at Cold Harbor, Virginia. After making a successful personal reconnaissance, Corporal Doody gallantly led the skirmishers in a night attack, charging the enemy, and thus enabling the pioneers to put up works.
