The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Owen McGough, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 21 July 1861, while serving with Battery D, 5th U.S. Artillery, in action at Bull Run, Virginia. Through his personal exertions under a heavy fire, one of the guns of his battery was brought off the field; all the other guns were lost.
