The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Second Lieutenant Orville Tyron Chamberlain, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 20 September 1863, while serving with Company G, 74th Indiana Infantry, in action at Chickamauga, Georgia. While exposed to a galling fire, Second Lieutenant Chamberlain went in search of another regiment, found its location, procured ammunition from the men thereof, and returned with the ammunition to his own company.
