His ceaseless efforts, by a continuous showing of resistance to an enemy who ignored all international agreements on treatment of Prisoners of War, in the extremely adverse conditions of the communist prisons of North Vietnam, demonstrated his professional competence, unwavering devotion, and loyalty to his country. Despite the harsh treatment through his long years of incarceration, he continued to perform his duties in a clearly exceptional manner which reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel Glenn Hubert Wilson (AFSN: FR-54287), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while held as a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam, during the month of May 1969. After a planned escape from the “Zoo Camp,” the enemy launched a massive torture purge attempting to gain prisoner secrets and propaganda materials. Tortured well beyond the normal threshold of pain, he continued to resist the enemy. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Colonel Wilson has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Glenn Hubert Wilson (AFSN: FR-54287), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4C Aircraft Commander with the 559th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Cam Ranh Bay Air Base, South Vietnam, in action against the enemy on 20 May 1967. On that date, Captain Wilson was the flight leader on a strike executed against a hostile field artillery position and numerous antiaircraft positions. Captain Wilson led his force directly to the target and delivered his ordnance precisely on target while under heavy fire. As only part of his bomb load was released in the first bomb run due to an aircraft weapons system malfunction, Captain Wilson reset his system, pulled the aircraft back on target and with unwavering calmness and courage, again dove on the hostile guns, silencing the ground fire that had harassed his flight. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Wilson reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.

On that date, Captain Wilson was scrambled from quick reaction alert status to suppress hostile infiltration into a village. His accurate weapons delivery and unwavering courage provided major destruction to the hostile resources and contributed materially to the United States’ efforts in Southeast Asia. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Wilson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
