The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Captain Charles C. Vasiliadis (AFSN: FR-53233), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as pilot of an A-1E aircraft over the Republic of Vietnam on 19 August 1965. On that date, Captain Vasiliadis was scrambled on a nigh mission to aid in the defense of the Dak Sut Fort which was under heavy attack by a large force of Viet Cong. Not to be deterred by heavy cloud cover and mountainous terrain surrounding the battle scene, Captain Vasiliadis pressed his attack against the Viet Cong positions in the face of withering automatic weapons fire to strafe and bomb with devastating accuracy. The outstanding heroism and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Vasiliadis reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
