Pattillo, Jr. (ASN: 0-826756), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Vice Commander and Commander, 31st Tactical Fighter Wing, Republic of Vietnam, from 25 October 1968 to 14 August 1969. In these important assignments, the leadership, exemplary foresight, and ceaseless efforts consistently demonstrated by Colonel Pattillo resulted in significant contributions to combating aggression throughout Southeast Asia. Pattillo, Jr. (ASN: 0-826756), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving as a Pilot in the 31st Tactical Fighter Wing, Tuy Hoa Air Base, South Vietnam, in action near Quan Long City, South Vietnam, on 8 November 1968. On that date, Colonel Pattillo was flying an F-100 in close air support of friendly troops in contact with a hostile force. In spite of intense, accurate ground fire and with total disregard for his own personal safety, he repeatedly pressed his attack causing devastating destruction to the hostile forces. Although his aircraft was severely damaged as a result of the hostile fire he elected to, and successfully did, land his crippled aircraft at a nearby airfield. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Colonel Pattillo has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Pattillo, Jr. (ASN: 0-826756), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as a member of the United States Air Forces in Europe from March 1950 to July 1952. In the execution of numerous precision flights through Europe Captain Pattillo demonstrated most favorably the characteristics and capabilities of jet aircraft. As a member of the SKYBLAZERS, a precision acrobatic jet team, he exemplified the spirit of cooperative effort so essential to the accomplishment of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Mission. The technical skill displayed by Captain Pattillo and the personal relationships he developed with allied military personnel, governmental leaders and the general public have been of invaluable assistance in accomplishing the mission of the United States Air Forces in Europe. Through air demonstrations and instruction in the technique of precision flying Captain Pattillo has helped to increase confidence in the United States equipment and inspired a desire in other pilots of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Air Forces to attain the same high level of competency.
