Staff Sergeant Osborne distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 23 August 1970, in the Republic of Vietnam. After coming upon a bunker, he went forward to check it out and the squad began receiving enemy fire from a well concealed position. Realizing that the lives of his men were in danger, he charged forward under the blazing enemy fire and dropped to the ground drawing the enemy fire on his location.
