The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Kenneth Walter North, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General North distinguished himself as Commander, Twenty-First Air Division/North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, Tactical Air Command, Hancock Field, New York, and as Commander, Twenty-Fourth Air Division/North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, Tactical Air Command, Griffiss Air Force Base, New York, from 2 August 1982 to 30 September 1985. During this period, General North’s outstanding achievements and his dynamic leadership and initiative resulted in the development of an air defense system specifically tailored to protect the Northeastern United States including the national command Authority in specific and the United States in general. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General North culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
