The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Michael Robert Nawrosky (ASN: OF-101629), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Nawrosky distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 3 April 1968, while serving as the Commanding Officer of Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), during an enemy attack near Khe Sanh, Republic of Vietnam. Captain Nawrosky was severely wounded in the action as he was attempting to aid one of his wounded men. Despite the fact that his wounds left him unable to speak, Captain Nawrosky continued to lead his men by writing his orders on paper. His gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
