The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Specialist Fourth Class Terry Lee Moser, United States Army, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with Battery C, 1st Battalion (Automatic Weapons) (Self Propelled), 44th Artillery Regiment, 108th Artillery Group, on 12 March 1970, in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Fourth Class Moser distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 12 March 1970, at 0230 hours, while serving as a crew member on an M42A1 (AW) (SP). Specialist Moser’s position came under heavy enemy mortar attack followed by an North Vietnamese Army Sapper attack during which Specialist Moser ran from his bunker to his gun position to return fire. Realizing that the guns would not fire due to a direct hit from an enemy mortar round, Specialist Moser exposed himself to heavy enemy fire and began firing his individual weapon while the crew ran to another gun position. When Specialist Moser dismounted the track, he too started across the bullet-swept area and was struck and killed by enemy fire. Specialist Moser’s extraordinary heroism in close combat against a numerically superior enemy force was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
