The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major William James Leonard King (AFSN: FV-3036616), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot over North Vietnam on 26 September 1967. On that date, Major King successfully evaded four air to air missiles, assisted in breaking up an attack by hostile aircraft, and still retained his ordnance for a strike against a heavily defended railroad causeway located one mile from Kep Airfield. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, Major King flew directly through the dense barrage of anti-aircraft fire and delivered his ordnance with unerring accuracy directly on target. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major King reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
