The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Major Kenneth Raymond Hughey (AFSN: AO-3024574/AD-14324519), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving as an F-4C Aircraft Commander of the 480th Tactical Fighter Squadron, DaNang Air Base, Vietnam, PACIFIC Air Force, in action near Kep, North Vietnam, on 6 July 1967. While flying as the Aircraft Commander of an F-4C Phantom II, Major Hughey led his flight deep into hostile territory. Despite extremely heavy anti-aircraft artillery fire, and with complete disregard for his personal safety, Major Hughey led his flight in a precision attack on the target. Through his skill and courage, all of the flight’s ordnance was delivered on target. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Hughey has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
