The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Joseph K. Glenn, United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as Pilot of a C-130 aircraft, in action at Dak To Airfield, Republic of Vietnam, on 15 November 1967. While his aircraft was on the ground the airfield came under heavy attack by hostile forces. During the attack, two adjacent aircraft received direct hits and were burning with nearby ammunition in danger of exploding and destroying another aircraft. Disregarding his own personal safety, in the face of extreme danger, Captain Glenn immediately left the safety of a bunker and proceeded to his aircraft. He then started engines and taxied the aircraft to a safe location. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Glenn has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
