    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major David W. Forgan (AFSN: FR-54314), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as Pilot of an F-105D fighter airplane of the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 388th Tactical Fighter Wing, Korat Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, in action over North Vietnam, on 21 August 1967. On that date, Major Forgan led a force of twelve F-105 Thunderchiefs in a devastating strike on a vital rail yard, six miles north of Hanoi. Despite two surface-to-air missiles, intense flak and radio failure in his flight, Major Forgan pressed on to deliver his bombs directly on target. Forty pieces of rolling stock were destroyed by the flight’s pinpoint bombing. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Forgan has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
