The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Aaron D. Farrior, United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force on 5 October 1966. On that date, as a Pararescue Specialist on a HH-3E Rescue Helicopter, Sergeant Farrior proceeded to deep into hostile territory and was successful in recovering one of two American pilots who had bailed out of their disabled aircraft. Disregarding his own safety, Sergeant Farrior voluntarily flew through heavy automatic weapons and small arms fire in order to reach the injured survivor before the hostile forces could capture him. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Sergeant Farrior has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Farrior, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an HH-3E Pararescue Specialist in Southeast Asia on 18 November 1968. On that date, Sergeant Farrior successfully recovered two Air Force pilots from and extremely hostile area. Despite automatic weapons fire directed at his helicopter. Sergeant Farrior exposed himself in the open doorway while skillfully directing a precarious hover down into the trees to place the fully extended hoist cable within one survivor’s reach. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Farrior reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Farrior, United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Pararescueman on a rescue helicopter over hostile territory on 1 May 1966. On that date, Sergeant Farrior made three desperate attempts to rescue an American pilot who was forced to bail out of his disabled aircraft over hostile territory. On each attempted rescue, Sergeant Farrior’s aircraft was raked by hostile fire. Because of the battle damage to his rescue helicopter. Sergeant Farrior was forced to withdraw from the area. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Farrior reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
