The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Robert D. Eaglet (AFSN: FR-74194), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Eaglet distinguished himself as Assistant Deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Management Policy and Program Integration to the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, the Pentagon, Washington, District of Columbia, from 7 July 1989 to 28 February 1991. In these important assignments, the leadership, exemplary foresight, and ceaseless efforts consistently demonstrated by General Eaglet resulted in significant improvements in the formulation and implementation of broad policy for managing Air Force acquisition programs, and established the architecture for baselining development and production programs to specified cost, schedule and performance parameters. His strong commitment as the United States representative on the F-16 steering committees with the five national European Participating Governments, and the FS-X with Japan, have led to significant advances in international cooperation to the benefit of free world security. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Eaglet culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Robert D. Eaglet (AFSN: FR-74194), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving as a Pilot and Air Liaison Officer with the 1st Cavalry Division (U.S. Army), in action in Binh Dinh Province, Republic of Vietnam, from 5 to 7 May 1966. During this period, as a ground Forward Air Controller, Captain Eaglet crossed wide areas of open territory alone under heavy hostile fire to join and assist a beleaguered platoon. From this and successive positions close to opposing forces, he directed air strikes while returning fire at close quarters with his rifle. After continuous flare ship illumination which he directed all night, four hostile companies were annihilated. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Eaglet has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    Under the provisions of Department of Defense 1348.33-M, the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America takes pleasure in awarding the Defense Superior Service Medal to Colonel Robert D. Eaglet (AFSN: FR-74194), United States Air Force, for exceptionally superior service to the Department of Defense as Deputy Program Manager for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Airborne Early Warning and Control Programs Office and as Assistant Deputy General Manager of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Airborne Early Warning and Control Program Management Agency during the period May 1975 through July 1979. He defined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Airborne Early Warning and Control Program which is the largest cooperatively funded project ever undertaken by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. His leadership and intellect coupled with an international perspective were key factors in successfully guiding this vital program through the complex North Atlantic Treaty Organization decision process. He made a most outstanding contribution to creating a program that is of enormous importance to the defense of Europe and the strength of the Alliance. Colonel Eaglet’s exceptional performance of duty and his contributions to the Alliance reflect great credit upon himself, the United States Air Force, and the Department of Defense.
