    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Christian Franklin Dreyer, Jr. (AFSN: FR-57811), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as an F-100 Pilot of the 306th Tactical Fighter Squadron, in action near Kontum, Republic of Vietnam, on 29 July 1967. On that date, a small friendly unit had been surrounded by a large unfriendly force. With coolness and great accuracy, repeatedly flying through a gauntlet of withering unfriendly ground fire, major Dreyer delivered his ordnance precisely on target, thus enabling the beleaguered friendly unit to be rescued without casualty. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Dreyer has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
