The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel Bennie Luke Davis, United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as a B-57 Pilot in the 13th Bombardment Squadron, 405th Fighter-Bomber Wing, SEVENTH Air Force, in action in Southeast Asia, on 20 January 1968. On that date, Colonel Davis successfully attacked a hostile truck convoy, destroying two of the heavily-laden vehicles. Despite intense anti-aircraft fire received on every pass, Colonel Davis returned for seven passes through the flak to destroy his assigned target. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Colonel Davis has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
