Under the provisions of Executive Order 11545, July 9, 1970, the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America take pleasure in awarding the Defense Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant General Bennie Luke Davis, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service contributing to national security and defense, in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, as Commander in Chief, Strategic Air Command, from 1981 to 1985. General Davis distinguished himself as Deputy Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff/Personnel for Military Personnel and Vice Commander, Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, from 14 July 1972 to 1 June 1974. In this critical staff position, General Davis provided strong decisive leadership through intensive personal involvement and imaginative foresight in furthering the goals of the United States Air Force. His inspirational leadership and tireless dedication to mission accomplishment have resulted in unprecedented advances in the management of Air Force Personnel. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Davis reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

United States Military Academy Register of GraduatesThe President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel Bennie Luke Davis, United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as a B-57 Pilot in the 13th Bombardment Squadron, 405th Fighter-Bomber Wing, SEVENTH Air Force, in action in Southeast Asia, on 20 January 1968. On that date, Colonel Davis successfully attacked a hostile truck convoy, destroying two of the heavily-laden vehicles. Despite intense anti-aircraft fire received on every pass, Colonel Davis returned for seven passes through the flak to destroy his assigned target. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Colonel Davis has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
