Headquarters, 7th Air Force, Special Order G-105 (January 8, 1969)
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major William Morrison Constantine (AFSN: 0-57864), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as Pilot of an A-1 “Skyraider” in the 6th Special Operations Squadron, Pleiku Air Base, Vietnam, PACIFIC Air Forces, in action near Kham Duc, Republic of Vietnam, on 29 September 1968. On that date, Major Constantine braved intense hostile fire in mountainous terrain and bad weather to help rescue an Army patrol. When his wingman was shot down, he courageously remained alone in the hostile environment, suppressing the ground fire and protecting the friendly element. He then led the rescue helicopters to the area and escorted them safely out of the area after the patrol had been extracted. His bravery and intrepid leadership were the instrumental factors in saving friendly lives. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Constantine has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
