The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major George Gerald Clausen (AFSN: FR-24929), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot in Southeast Asia on 30 April 1967. On that date, Major Clausen was a member of “Locust” flight and was ordered to strike a heavily defended target in North Vietnam. Flying through a devastating barrage of anti-aircraft fire, Major Clausen made successive strikes on hostile positions resulting in their destruction and setting off numerous secondary explosions. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Clausen reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
