The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Robert M. Bond (AFSN: AO-2225449/FR45558), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Bond distinguished himself as the Deputy Director for General Purpose Forces, Deputy Chief of Staff, Research, Development and Acquisition, Headquarters United States Air Force, from 25 June 1972 to 10 August 1978. During this period General Bond was a powerful advocate for force modernization and successfully melded the general purpose mission needs into viable development strategy which will have far reaching impact on the course of the Air Force for years to come. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Bond reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
