The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Charles Emerson Bishop, United States Air Force, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of an F-105 Thunderchief, of the 354th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 355th Tactical Fighter Wing, PACIFIC Air Force, Air Force, Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action over North Vietnam, on 28 July 1967. On that date, Major Bishop led a force of twenty F-105 Thunderchiefs on a successful attack against the Bac Ninh Railroad Siding. Despite adverse weather and intense hostile fire, Major Bishop led the bombing attack which heavily damaged this important rail siding. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Bishop has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
