The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain William Redwick Austin, II (AFSN: FR-71588), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in military air operations against an opposing armed force as a F-4D Pilot on 3 August 1967. On that date, Captain Austin led a flight of F-4s striking a vital railroad assembly area. While evading attacks from hostile aircraft, intense anti-aircraft fire, and threats from surface-to-air missiles, Captain Austin successfully interdicted this important military target. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Austin reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
