The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 8, 1918 (amended by act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Major Ralph Emerson Adams (AFSN: FR-54630/AO-3069437), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as an F-105F Thunderchief “Wild Weasel” Pilot of the 354th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Takhli Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, PACIFIC Air Forces, in action over North Vietnam on 25 October 1967. On that date, Major Adams led a flight of “Wild Weasel” aircraft in suppressing surface-to-air missile launches against a strike force attacking a vital railroad and highway bridge in the vicinity of Hanoi, North Vietnam. In the face of murderous anti-aircraft fire and MiG attacks, Major Adams and his flight were able to suppress every active surface-to-air missile site threatening the strike force, and destroy a hostile ground control intercept site as well. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Adams has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
